how to get to shimbashi shiodome

From Haneda

If you are on Air Canada (and almost all others) to HND, you will be arriving at Terminal 3 (International) of Haneda Airport.
To familialize with the airport:

  1. Go to https://tokyo-haneda.com/en/access/train/index.html
  2. Scroll down to "Ticket Gate Information"
  3. Click on "T3 (Terminal 3)"
    • The second map depicting "2nd floor Arrival Lobby" is the map you need.

To get to Shimbashi/Shiodome

  1. Once you are out of the customs area ("Arrival Exit" in the map above), head straight. There's the Keikyu Line ticketing booth about 70m ahead at one o'clock.
  2. Get a ticket to Shimbashi (550yen as of late 2025), or get a Pasmo prepaid card and load it with at least 5,000 yen (if you are staying for a week).
  3. Go through the gate (tap the sensor with the card you just bought) , take the elevator down to the lowest level, and take the train for Shimbashi/Oshiage/Narita Airport, but NOT Zushi, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Kurihama, Miura-Kaigan.
    • Keikyu timetable at Keikyu Haneda Airport (weekend) (in Japanese)
      • Don't take the bule ones with '逗' (short for 逗子, Zushi) at the end. They will go to Kawasaki, Yokohama and the south, the opposite from Shimbashi/Shiodome. So, between 12PM and 6PM in weekends, NO 00, 20, 40.
      • All others will take you to Shimbashi without transfers.
        • Orange: Non stop between Haneda AP and Shinagawa, so the fastest
        • Green: Only one stop (Kamata) between Haneda AP and Shinagawa, so still pretty fast
        • Red: Skips few stations, so faster than blue, and black (stop every station)
      • If it's after 9PM and/or unsure, just take a cab (about JPY7,000 to Shiodome).
      • If your train terminates at Shinagawa, unlikely if you take one of those above, get off at Shinagawa and wait for the next train.
  4. If you successfully ride a correct one, get off at Shimbashi (35 min (orange) to 45min (red) from the airport in the daytime).

From Narita

You will want to take Narita Express to Tokyo (1 hour) and then to Shimbashi (3min). Narita Express trains are available every half an hour: 15:14, 15:44, 16:19, 16:44: 17:16, 17:45, 18:15...

You do not need a train IC card (Suica/Pasmo) to get on Narita Express.

If you are on Air Canada to NRT, you will be arriving at Terminal 1.

  1. To familialize yourself with the airport, go to https://www.narita-airport.jp/en/map/
  2. At the bottom of page/map, click on the "All Terminals" button
  3. Click on "T1" and then select 1F "International Arrivals, Domestic Check-in, Bus & Taxi". Zoom in a bit.
This shows the arrival floor. You will most likely come out from "Arrival Lobby (South Wing)", and you need to go down the escalator (though it says Stairs, there are escalators available) immediately in front of it.
  4. Click on the bottom button again, and then select B1F Railway.
  5. Once you are at the JR Narita T1 station, get a Narita Express ticket for Tokyo, and add an extra trip to Shimbashi (from Tokyo). You will most likely get 2 pieces of paper tickets.
It will be easier if you do this at the human counter. The staffs speak English and will take a credit card. Don't worry about getting a Suica/Pasmo. You can get one once you are in Tokyo.
  6. Go through the gate (stack the two paper tickets together and insert both of them in one go into the slot at the gate), take the escalator down to the platform level, and go to the car designated on your ticket, and get to the designated seat (also on your ticket).
Tokyo station is one hour away.
  7. Once you've arrived at Tokyo station, get off, stay on the same platform, and get on the next local train. The first station will be Shimbashi.
  8. Once you've arrived at Shimbashi, look for an elevator, and get on.
You will come out right next to the ticket gate on B1 on the Shiodome side.
  9. At the gate, insert only the ticket showing the station names (josha-ken), not your seat assignment (tokkyu-ken), to go through the gate, and walk to the hotel (3min). I think you can keep your tokkyu-ken.

From Narita: Other options

Other than the direct bus option, you will need a SUICA/Pasmo beforehand. You can buy a SUICA at one of machines at JR Narita station, but there may be a long queue, even at the Keisei side to get a Pasmo.

  • Airline Limousine Bus
    • Direct Access to the hotel. 90~120min to Shiodome (right at your hotel)
        although only available 17:05 -> 19:05, 18:25 -> 20:15, 19:45 -> 21:25
    • To buy a ticket without reservation, go to the Bus Counter and buy a ticket there. Then proceed to the designated bus stop.
    • Outside those hours, get a ticket for Tokyo Station (60-70min) or TCAT (50-60min). It's unpredictable beyond that. I wouldn't take a bus for the west side of Tokyo (Shibuya, Shinjuku, etc.) in the late afternoon. Could be well over 2 hours.
  • Skyliner (Keisei Line)
    • Cheaper than JR but a transfer required at Nippori (50min) to JR Yamanote-line southbound to Shimbashi (15min), for which you will want a SUICA/Pasmo beforehand.
    • Or take Skyliner all the way to Keisei-Ueno (which is a bit of walk to/from JR Ueno) and transfer to Yamanote-line (southbound) to Shinbashi, or get a cab.
    • Pro: Your train might stop at Aoto (only some of them) but if that's the case, you can get off here and then transfer to Asakusa line for Shimbashi (definitely need a PASMO/SUICA and Tokyo subway knowledge).
  • Local trains (JR and Keisei):
    • 80 ~ 100min to JR Tokyo station, but wouldn't recommend for the first timers. You need a SUICA/Pasmo beforehand, and know the way around with the trains and subways in Tokyo.
    • But this could be the only option when your flight arrived in an odd hour (like 5AM).
  • Taxi:
    • Only if you've exhausted all other options. Expect at least JPY30,000 (CA $300).
